India wins the One-day International Series
India delivered the final knock-out blow on Pakistan as they crushed the hosts by eight wickets in the fifth and final one-day international in Karachi on Monday to complete a 4-1 series victory. Yuvraj Singh scored a brilliant 107 and Mahendra Singh Dhoni played an unbelievable innings of 77 to guide India to victory.

Navapur poultry farmers cry foul
Poultry farmers in Navapur in Maharashtra's Nandurbar district, which is in the news for all the wrong reasons, have organised a "chicken party" for the media and officials at the local government rest house Tuesday.
The reason: the local poultry farmers' association members will eat chicken delicacies under the glare of the world media in an attempt to show that the bird flu is just a hoax.

Bird flu cases strike Maharashtra
In the first instance of the deadly avian flu virus in India, the Maharashtra government on Saturday said chicken have died of the disease in the Nandurbar and Dhule districts, which have a large number of poultry farms, even as the state authorities have rushed immediate medical help to the affected areas.
The high security animal disease laboratory in Bhopal, where poultry samples were sent has confirmed that seven samples had strains of the deadly H5N1 avian flu virus, official sources said in Mumbai.

MP unaffected by bird flu:CM
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today maintained the State was unaffected by Avian Influenza but a red alert was sounded across Madhya Pradesh as a precautionary measure.

Dr. Shashi Rai appointed U.G.C. member
The Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India has issued a notification appointing Dr. Shashi Rai as a member of the University Grants Commission for a term of three years. The appointment of Dr. Shashi Rai, who is at present working as Principal, Sarojini Naidu Govt. Girls P.G. College, Bhopal, shall come into force with immediate effect.

All India Optholmological Conference begins
The Governor Dr. Balram Jakhar has said that ophthalmologists should develop an insight about human eyesight. Cataract and weak eyesight are very common ailments among Indians. The ophthalmologists should, therefore, evolved less expensive treatment to make it affordable for the common people.
The Governor was inaugurating the four-day 64th All India Optholmological Conference: Antardrishti-2006" here today. The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan presided over the function attended among others by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri Ajay Vishnoi.

Governor Dr. Jakhar holds discussions with British High Commissioner
The British High Commissioner, Sir Michael Arthur made a courtesy call on the Governor, Dr. Balram Jakhar at Raj Bhawan here today. The two held discussions on various issues of development in Madhya Pradesh. The High Commissioner informed the Governor, Dr. Jakhar that the British Government has been extending cooperation to the State Government in execution of various development projects and implementation of welfare schemes for the last four-five years. Now, the British Government wishes to carry out these works on a larger scale, added Sir Michael Arthur.

Paying tribute to late Shri Vichitra Kumar Sinha, Shri Shivraj Singh said that the prime objective of a journalist, writer and a poet is to safeguard truths and values. He recalled the services of late Shri Sinha as a journalist and freedom fighter.

Telgi wants to make another confession
Prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi, who is recording a statement in a 1995 case, Friday instructed his lawyer to file an application before a special court in Pune asking it to allow him to make a confession in the Bund Garden stamp paper case.
