What is happiness? Is it success ? As a famous song went, "Happiness is, different thing for different people, that's what happiness is". Permit me to speak for myself.. A pursuit of success or happiness is often mistakenly taken as accumulation of wealth. While two can often travel together on the road to happiness, but an undue obsession with one or the other can often defeat the purpose.
Going by my own experience, I feel that Success in professional life can be achieved with ability and hard work coupled with focus on ethical conduct.
I have found to my joy that a job well done is usually the key to professional success as well as a source of boundless joy. It required me to be fully involved with the job at hand ,almost to exclusion of much else. In achieving a focus on achieving best results required me to identify myself with the organizational objectives by creating a win win situation as often as possible. Nevertheless quite often, as a result I felt at the end of many a working days in a state of joyous buoyancy and with a sense of great happiness. The fact that the work done well was noticed by others earning me praise and/or respect of most of the colleagues and peers.
Important part... Customers as well.
I don't know if that isn't sucess.... What else is. By being in a state of happiness much of the time, I was able to enjoy my food ,life and time spent with family better than otherwise.
I have often felt that for a young man it is advisable to choose a calling befitting his aptitude or interest and then equip himself with the knowledge needed to do a good/great job. A commitment to the work , good performance can then take you to material success as well as joy/ happiness arising out of the satisfaction of doing a good job. That can be a sure fire formula for attaining success. An accent on truthful conduct can ,of course, go a long way in optimising the desired outcome.
